First celebrated in 2012, Global Wellness Day was established in Turkey as the “first” day dedicated to living well, and has now been accepted world-wide, and it is officially celebrated in 73 countries in 2015, reflecting its success.

Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices towards a healthy and fulfilling life. It is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. A good or satisfactory condition of existence; a state characterized by health, happiness, and prosperity; welfare.

"Wellness is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
- The World Health Organization.

Feeling good has no age! Wellness is a philosophy that should start in the individual’s childhood, not adulthood. Children who are aware of living well not only become more successful in life, but as they are also healthy adults, they are more able to express themselves freely in their social lives.

Globally, there are more than 1.6 billion overweight adults, at least 300 million of them clinically obese. In just 10 years, the WHO projects that number will grow by 40%. Globally more than 40 million children under the age of five were overweight in 2010.

Childhood obesity levels are running at more than 10% in all countries except Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Ireland and the United States are the only countries in which more than 25% of children report exercising for at least an hour a day. ( The ‘one hour a day’ criterion used here follows the recommendations of the World Health Organization.)

All of us would like to be healthier, to look better, and to live well both physically and spiritually. Living well is almost the entire world’s shared dream.

As everything that is precious to us has been honored with a special day, why is it that we don’t have a special global day dedicated to the only thing which is really valuable to all of us, that is, living well? We can now answer this question by saying “it now exists”. This special day is called Global Wellness Day.

With the slogan “One day can change your whole life,” we celebrate Global Wellness Day on the second Saturday of June every year as an international day dedicated to living well.

Global Wellness Day is an entirely not-for-profit day, a social project created by volunteers dedicated to living well. The purpose of Global Wellness Day is to ask the question, even if for just one day, "How can I live a healthier and better life?", to direct the thoughts of both individuals and society towards “living well” and to raise awareness.

The main aims of the day are:

  • To recognize the value of our lives
  • To pause and think, even if for just one day of the year
  • To be free from the stress of everyday city life and bad habits
  • To make peace with ourselves
  • To raise awareness about living well and increase motivation, not just for today, but for the remaining 364 days of the year.

Like thousands of people, say "Yes!" to this special day spreading world-wide from Turkey
